GoPro in the mountains

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Tuesday, March 25, 2014,

To celebrate our wedding anniversary the missus and I recently packed our backpacks and headed for the central Drakensberg mountains. This was of course not a paid project but still a lot of fun and a good opportunity for some gear testing.

I've been a keen hiker since my teens. For years hiking with a video camera has eluded me, mainly because of weight and budgetary (read "pocket money") restrictions. The action camera age has now changed all that. For our trip into the mountains I took my...

First shoot for 2014

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Tuesday, February 25, 2014,

I'm baaack! I've completed a few post projects since the start of the year, but yesterday was my first shoot since the cast came off my hand a week or so ago. All fingers present and fully functional. This shoot was for the NWU School of Music for upcoming concert ads.

No really..

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Thursday, June 6, 2013,
Having come from a rather insignificant video background I find the new world of cine-style shooting fascinating. Especially the tools. Accessory attachment plates are called cheese plates. And you get Israeli arms. Step down lens rings are called donuts.

Pictured here is a lens hood that covers the gap between my new matte box and the camera lens to keep out light. What's it called? Nun's Knickers. Even in the product catalogue.

It's the month of May again (Warning: opinion piece to follow)

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Friday, May 24, 2013,

The month of May has special meaning for me. This month three years ago I turned in my resignation and left behind everything that represented the security of a safe and stable job at that time. I became self-employed and in doing so I, to my surprise, gained more work satisfaction and enjoyment from life than I would ever have imagined. It’s been a non-stop adventure with ups and downs. Three years later, here’s what I’ve learned:

1) There is no such thing as security. Stable jobs and l...

WTF...!

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Thursday, October 11, 2012,

The world's favourite action camera has spawned a whole industry around custom camera mounts, but this one is so ridiculous I just had to post it! So picture this - you're packin' some 9mm Glock or SIG heat and you'd love to see yourself in action, right? So what do you do? Why you get this cool GoPro pistol mount of course!

I suppose it will produce interesting footage, if you can get used to to watching everything upside down. And if you can find a big enough holster...

Dude where's my camera...GoPro survives a 12500ft freefall!

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Friday, September 14, 2012,

My fascination with the little camera continues...

I picked up on this through GoPro's Facebook feed. This little camera survived a 12500ft freefall WITHOUT the casing. The jumper's helmet hooked the aircraft's doorframe on exit snapping open the latch and the camera filmed all the way down.

Just goes to show how incredibly tough GoPro really is!

Be the master of your own destiny (warning: opinion piece to follow)

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Monday, April 23, 2012,

This week two years ago I walked into my boss’s office, dropped my resignation on her desk and in doing so set in motion a series of life-changing events. Apparently I was later accused of having thrown down said resignation on said desk. In hindsight I should perhaps have done that because then the first part of this story would have made for much more dramatic reading.

Anyhow, two years later I am, fortunately or unfortunately, depending on whether you love me or hate me, still around doin...
